Japan Donates School Facilities in
 Hapuuyo Sub-County

Hapuuyo Primary School and Rwenyange Primary School have today received school facilities from the Embassy of Japan in Uganda. The project of 103,886 USD (about 235million Uganda shillings) was signed between the Embassy of Japan and Hapuuyo Sub-County Local Government in January this year. Classrooms, teachers’ quarters and latrines have been constructed and school furnitureprovided through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) of Japan.

The two schools lacked classrooms and the teachers lived far away from the schools, causing them to spend heavily on rent as well as transport. The project will enable the teachers to live within the school, hence improving their performance in the school.

H. E. Kazuo Minagawa, Ambassador of Japan to Uganda, officiated the handover that took place at Hapuuyo Primary School. “Education is the foundation and backbone for development,” he said adding that Japanhighly values education as an important investment for the future.

GGP isa scheme administered by the Japanese Embassy to support community development projects to uplift the life of grassroots people. So far, 147 projects have been funded under the scheme in Uganda since its inception in Uganda in 1992.

Japan, steadily promoting ownership of and partnership with African countries through Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) process, is committed to boosting economic growth, achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and consolidating peace and good governance in Africa.
